The Basketball Court is Finished!

From March to April, 2023, nearly 60 volunteers from 3 high schools in the U.S. supported the construction of a new basketball court and community gathering area in the small town of Chijancinto in Tecpan, Guatemala. This space will serve as a safe and beautiful place for the community to come together for special events, and of course to play basketball! Additionally, the concrete floor will keep the dust away, and allow the space to be used even during the rainy season. The community, and especially the youth, are so excited and grateful for the help.

High School Volunteers Get Their Hands Dirty

This project engaged 3 amazing groups of volunteers from the Leman Manhattan High School, Hopkins & Smith Academies and the EDGE program at Liberty High School. Volunteers carried materials, mixed cement and poured concrete to complete the floor of the court. In addition, the students also implemented public health and hygiene workshops for the local community and youth.

A Collaboration between Chijancito and Squads Abroad

This project was a collaboration between Chijancinto and the Squads Abroad volunteers to create a positive change in the community. The community leaders and youth were so happy with the outcome of the project, and we look forward to doing more work together in the future.
