In May 2023, a group of volunteers from Chaminade College Preparatory School, participated in a Global Health Squad in Greece. The brigade was focused on providing health training and workshops to unaccompanied minors living in shelters in Athens.
The health screenings were conducted by the students in collaboration with Squads Abroad staff. They included height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, blood glucose, and body mass index. At the same time, volunteers presented workshops that focused on healthy and unhealthy lifestyle choices. They discussed the importance of good nutrition, exercise, and avoiding bad habits.
In addition to health screenings and workshops, students also participated in a variety of cultural activities to experience local traditions. These activities included a walk tour of Glyfada, a visit to the Archelon Sea Turtle Rescue Center, a cooking lesson, a pottery activity, at the end of the squad they had a relaxing beach day, a walking tour of Plaka, a visit to the Acropolis Museum and Acropolis, and dance lessons. These Squads Abroad volunteers loved their experience learning about, appreciating, and respecting other cultures.
