From April 2-8, 2024 a group of dedicated students from Amador Valley HS traveled to the small community of La Candelaria in Panama Oeste to make a profound difference and support their water infrastructure.
Infrastructure Development for Education
At Squads Abroad, one of our primary focuses is to enhance the infrastructure of the local elementary school with impactful projects. This time, with the amazing support of Amador Valley students and faculty, we started the construction of an elevated water storage tank, which is crucial to ensure reliable access to clean water for the school. The project was divided into different tasks such as excavation of the ground, the steel reinforcement, and pouring concrete. This process helps the volunteers to demonstrate not only their engineering skills, but also their commitment to improve educational facilities in underserved areas.
Educational Empowerment Through Workshops
At the same time as the construction efforts, the STEM Squad conducted an educational workshop titled “Water Sanitation & Hygiene.” This workshop was designed to empower local students with essential knowledge about water management practices. Topics covered included the importance of proper handwashing, methods for water purification, strategies for maintaining clean water sources, and effective water storage techniques. By imparting this crucial information, the Squad aimed to equip the community with tools to prevent waterborne diseases and promote health and hygiene practices.
Impact and Reflection
The impact made by Amador Valley HS was profound. Not only did they leave a tangible improvement in infrastructure through their construction project, but they also fostered lasting connections and knowledge exchange with the community of La Candelaria. Through their dedication and service-oriented approach, they supported the community and helped create a more healthy environment for the students and teachers.
As we reflect on this incredible journey, we are inspired by the dedication and enthusiasm of the students from Amador Valley HS. Their commitment to making a positive impact abroad serves as a beacon of hope and empowerment for future generations of Squads Abroad volunteers.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported this mission and look forward to continuing our mission with more Squads in the future. If you are interested in participating, contact us to learn more!
