Sierra Persinger is a student from Missouri who recently returned from a volunteer trip to Guatemala. In the month of March, she spent two weeks working alongside our local staff and fellow students from the EDGE Program at Liberty High School to support the community of Chijancinto to complete a new basketball court that will also serve as a community gathering space for years to come. Sierra’s experience in Guatemala was an eye-opening one. She also made some amazing friends and memories that she will cherish forever.

Dear Squads Abroad Staff,
I wanted to take a moment to express my thanks for your guidance and support during our trip to Guatemala. Your dedication and hard work made our experience unforgettable and so meaningful. From the moment we showed up, your team was there to help us with safety, comfort, and enjoyment. You went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, from transportation, housing, food, and activities. Your knowledge and experience with the local culture and communities were unforgettable in helping us navigate unfamiliar territory and appreciate the beauty of Guatemala. Most importantly, you helped us make a difference in the lives of the people we met and worked with. I never could’ve imagined that our being there could make such an incredible impact on the children and community, but you were able to show me that. Your commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment was shown in every activity we took part in, and it was inspiring to see the impact we could make together. Thank you again for all that you did for us. We will always remember our time in Guatemala and the role you played in making it possible.
