6 New Life Experiences You Can Try With Squads Abroad

There are so many different cultural activities that you can experience on a Squads Abroad trip. To get you more excited about going on a trip abroad, we decided to highlight new things you can learn to immerse yourself in the different cultures of each location where Squads Abroad volunteers work

1. Make your own chocolate in Costa Rica

Chocolate is a huge part of the culture in Costa Rica, so if you like chocolate, this is the right place for you. You have the opportunity to attend a chocolate workshop where you create your own chocolate bar with their famous cacao beans and you can even throw in any add ins you want to personalize your own chocolate! Get involved on a STEM Squad in Costa Rica and work with your local high school by joining here!

2. Explore the Cape Coast in Ghana

Explore the beautiful scenery in Ghana by embarking on a journey to the many attractions Cape Coast has to offer. You will be able to visit the Kakum National Park, a rainforest that is home to many endangered mammals such as forest elephants, bongo antelopes, and the Diana monkey. We hope you’re not scared of heights because you will be as high as the trees! In Cape Coast, you will be able to walk across the Canopy Walkway which is suspended 30 meters above the ground. 3. Visit the capital of Greece

Deepen your knowledge of Greece by visiting the capital, Athens! There are many ancient buildings here that you will get to visit including the Parthenon and the Acropolis of Athens. In addition, you are able to immerse yourself in the authentic culture by learning basic phrases to converse in Arabic and Greek when you travel with Squads Abroad. 4. Tour the the city of Tecpán in Guatemala

When you volunteer in Guatemala you are welcomed into the safe and culturally-rich Maya Highlands of the town of Tecpán. Here, you get the chance to experience an in-depth orientation, guided walking tour of the vast and lush volcanic valley of Tecpán. Join a squad in Guatemala to immerse yourself in the culture and make an impact!

5. Learn how to make traditional candies in Honduras

If you love sweets, then you will love Honduras! With Squads Abroad, you are able to visit the city of Cantarranas to learn how to make traditional candies and sweets. 6. Dive into the Panama City in Panama

Visit the famous artificial 82 kilometer waterway that connects two oceans, the Panama Canal! This canal is known as one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century. The Panama Canal connects 160 countries and 1,700 ports around the world! Get involved with a Squads Abroad in Panama today!

Each Squad type has a skill-based focus area that support the education, health and economic development objectives of community partners. Faculty choose their dates, duration (typically 1-2 weeks), and their site location from one of our six program countries.
